Medicine Ceremonies

Healing Frontline Heroes and Bufo Alvarius Sonora Toad Sanctuary have been working closely with various indigenous medicine carriers from various regions around Mexico, Colombia, and the United States. We have created a network of indigenous healers to provide services to our guests that are done with honor and reverence to the indigenous wisdom, culture, and the communities from whence they came. We strive to offer immersive experiences with our affiliates that are for more than transactional, and based on immersion into the communities.

5-MEO-DMT (Bufo) Ceremonies

5-Methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine, commonly known as 5-MeO-DMT, or the “God Molecule,” is a powerful and potent psychoactive substance that belongs to the tryptamine class of compounds. It is naturally found in various plant species, and the toad species Bufo Alvarius (also known as the Sonoran Desert Toad and Colorado River Toad), which secretes 5-MeO-DMT in the parotid glands (a type of salivary gland). Although 5-MeO-DMT is classified as a Schedule I substance by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), it has gained significant popularity in recent years as a recreational drug, and for its potential therapeutic uses.

Kambo
Ceremonies

Indigenous people have used kambo for centuries to heal and cleanse the body by strengthening its natural defenses and warding off bad luck. It was also believed to increase stamina and hunting skills.

These days shamans and naturopathic practitioners still use it for cleansing the body of toxins, as well as treating numerous health conditions.

Despite a lack of research, proponents of kambo believe it can help with a range of conditions, including: addiction, Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety, cancer, chronic pain, depression, diabetes, hepatitis, HIV and AIDS infections, infertility, rheumatism and vascular conditions.

The first part of the process involves drinking about a liter of water. Next, a practitioner will use a burning stick to create a number of small burns on the skin, resulting in blisters. The blistered skin is then scraped off, and the kambo is applied to the wounds.

From the wound, the kambo enters the lymphatic system and bloodstream, where it’s said to race around the body scanning for problems. This usually results in some immediate side effects, especially vomiting.

Once these effects begin to fade, the person will be given water or tea to help flush out the toxins and rehydrate.

Changa Ceremonies

Changa is a modern herbal smoking blend that allows the psychedelic molecule N-DMT to be smoked in a more pleasant and longer-lasting form than pure crystal DMT, because it is mixed with an MAOI Inhibitor and other natural herbs. Changa is made from the plant ingredients of the most popular variations of the ayahuasca brew; Psychotria viridis and Banisteriopsis caapi. The idea is that when smoked, the combination of these plants gives you a mystical psychedelic experience similar to ayahuasca, but shorter lasting.

Temazcal
Ceremonies

Temazcal is an ancestral shamanic ritual practiced by ancient civilizations throughout Central & North America, including the Maya, Aztecs & Toltecs. The purpose is therapeutic healing  to relieve stress, aches and injuries, cure skin or respiratory disease and also during childbirth. It is often compared to other sweat lodge activities such as the Hammam, the sauna and hot water baths. It is guided by a 'shaman' who accompanies you throughout the experience, called Temazcalero. In the indigenous Náhuatl language, Temazcalli means "house of steam".

In fact, the Temezcal is a traditional Mexican ceremony of well-being and purification of the soul, spirit and body.

It takes place inside a  dome shaped space where hot volcanic stones are placed in the center then infused with water and herbs, generating steam that relaxes the muscles and opens the pores of the skin for an intensive body cleanse, releasing tension and toxins. The dome can reach up to 50 degrees

Mushroom Ceremonies

Psilocybin is an organic psychoactive compound produced by more than 180 species of mushrooms. When ingested, psilocybin is converted by the body into psilocin, which induces visual and auditory hallucinations and distorts senses and perception of time.[1] Humans have consumed psilocybin-containing mushrooms for these effects for millennia. In particular, the Mayan and Aztec cultures in Mesoamerica used psychoactive mushrooms in religious ceremonies. In the Aztec language Nahuatl, the mushrooms were known as teonanácatl, or flesh of the gods.

Ayahuasca
Ceremonies

Ayahuasca is a psychoactive brew that people make using the leaves of the Psychotria viridis plant and the stalks of the Banisteriopsis caapi vine. It may also contain other ingredients. The name “ayahuasca” originates from the Quechua language, where aya means soul or ancestors, and wasca (huasca) means vine or rope. Most people translate this as “vine of the soul.” The brew has been popular in regions of the Amazon for millennia, for both medical and spiritual reasons. It induces an “introspective dream-like experience” that includes visions and memories. Today, people from all over the world travel to these places to participate in ayahuasca rituals.

Hape/Rapeh Ceremonies

Hape is a sacred shamanic snuff medicine with profound healing effects. Hape is made from different medicinal plants for different purposes - to induce visions, increase energy, and is very grounding. It helps with stress and anxiety.

As a Brazilian, this medicine calls me deeply as a medicine carrier. The medicine runs thru my soul and represents my culture and lineage. When in ceremony I represent the jungle and the Brazilian people of the forest. The hape blow represents the wind of the jungle.
